What Are Interest Groups and Lobbyists? – Law Terminology

There’s a myriad of organizations that are interested. A few you may have heard of are the NAACP who advocate for the needs of African Americans or the AARP which lobbies for the interests of retirees. Interest groups have three major duties in the legislative branch.

1. They represent the issues and opinions of their community to the policymakers and public.

2. The goal of their organization is to convince Congress to approve laws specifically aimed at benefiting those they represent.

3. They support and fund the political parties that show the support of their objectives and motivations.
